We all know that we need to dress to suit our own unique shape, but often we forget that this rule applies to handbags as well. What you carry over your shoulder should be tailored to your body in exactly the same way that those fabulous jeans fit you like a glove. I’ve put together a list of 8 handbag styles to compliment your body type; read on ladies! Maybe your luggage is ruining your look!
1. Long Straps
Cross body bags and cool messengers are super popular at the moment but unfortunately ladies, we can’t all wear them. The longer strap doesn’t work well if you’re just a little on the short side. A messenger that’s flapping around your knees both looks ridiculous and is really impractical as well. Unless your strap is exactly the right length you really struggle to get things in and out of your bag. Not ideal!
2. Oversized Shoppers
Oversized bags are great: they’re stylish and you can pretty much fit your life inside them. But, ladies, again, they’re not suited to everyone. If you’re super-petite you need to make sure the bag you go with isn’t too enormous. Remember it’s all relative – on a very small person, the hugest of huge bags looks a little ridiculous, but on a taller, more substantial body, the same bag will be a better fit.
3. Mid-Sitting Bags
Where a bag rests on your body is so important ladies. It really emphasizes that part of your body. If you’ve got great curves and a neat little midriff, go for a bag that hangs to your waistline. If you’ve got more of a boyish figure, you’ll want to avoid this length: it will only draw attention to a curve that isn’t there.
4. Mini Totes
Small purse are actually trickier than they seem. The truth is, girls, they’re not really suited to the fuller figure. An already small purse will be dwarfed under the arm of a bigger girl, so if you’re voluptuous, go for something a little more sizable.
5. Thick vs. Thin Straps
This one’s pretty easy to figure out yourself, girls. If you’re a pear shape with narrower shoulders, ladies, then a thicker strap will help to add weight to this section of your body. The opposite applies to girls with a broader upper body: these ladies should go for bags with less intrusive straps which won’t accent the area.
6. Under-Arm Bags
Bags that sit on the breast-line will obviously draw attention to the bust. This is great for girls keen to emphasize their assets, but ladies who want to draw attention away from this area should opt for a bag that hangs a little lower. This one doesn’t need to be about body shape; it’s more a case of where you want attention to fall.
7. Embelished, Layers and Fringes
To a certain extent, we can all get away with a little bling on our bags, but experts suggest that thinner, boyish figures look best with very irregular bags. The layers, flaps and fringes counterbalance a very straight figure and soften the harsh lines this kind of angular body struggles with.
8. Hip Length Satchels
This fab, casual look works so well on girls with a heavier torso and longer, thin legs. This difficult-to-dress upside down triangle is toned down by the emphasis on the legs and butt.
There we have it ladies: 8 handbags to compliment your body type. What are your thoughts on this one, girls? Can a bag add or take off the pounds?
